How to declutter your brain - Elizabeth Hope Derby

How to declutter your brain

Have you ever had that experience where it feels like your head is bursting at the seams? Like your brain is so full, so packed with “stuff”, you need to close your eyes and lie down for about 30 years?

I liken that feeling to having a headache or bad allergies, but it’s coming from a swollen to-do list instead of swollen sinuses.

One of the healthiest practices I began taking on several years ago was consciously decluttering my brain. I’m all about physical decluttering—I literally Marie Kondo’d my entire house a few years before my son was born—but it had never quite clicked that I could do the same thing with my brain.

Once I began consciously and consistently eliminating clutter from a few key areas of my life, I felt a significant lightening of my mental burdens. Now these practices are second nature for me, but I’ve never actually spelled them out before.

In Episode 3 of Everyday Unicorn, I talk in-depth about how to declutter your mind and use this practice to create a more peaceful and focused life. I share three specific areas where you can eliminate excess and in so doing create more mental space for what truly matters to you.

Tune in and you will:

  • Identify three key areas where you’re likely spending too much of your precious time, energy, and brainpower.

  • Reduce noise and distractions by limiting exposure to upsetting information.

  • Streamline unnecessary stress by taking a more critical eye to your relationships and commitments.

  • Simplify your to-do list and minimize task-switching to maintain clarity and productivity.
