3 ways to quiet the chaos

You know that feeling when it’s a holiday weekend, the boss shuts down work early, and you get to flee and scoot your boot home for a long and luscious break?

You have that sensation of being fully and truly unplugged… Like you don’t have a care in the world.

You’re free to simply ENJOY whatever it is you want to do. Whatever pleasures and adventures  your heart + home invite you to explore.

Ahhhhhhhhh.

Today is a holiday here in the U.S. (It’s a National Day of Mourning, AKA Thanksgiving. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, read this.)

Maybe you’re already immersed in that juicy unplugged vibe… Or maybe you’re far from it.

Being your own boss is no joke, my friend. If you don’t have strong mental, emotional, and professional boundaries, work bleeds into everything you do.

The endless to do lists… Squeezing in one more task… Early AM ruminations about where you’re headed, if you’re on track, why you haven’t done more and why you can’t ever work less…

All that noise will destroy your peace and rob you of your joy.

Here are three ways you can quiet the chaos + get back to freedom (just for today or your whole career).

  1. Make clear decisions. In other words, give yourself some healthy structure and stick to it. Are you working today or not? If so, when will you start and when will you stop? If not, what tasks, tech, or thoughts are off-limits? Just like you’d shut down your computer or equipment before leaving a corporate office, you may want to shut down your work email, social media apps, or other distractions so you can be fully present in your non-work life.

  2. Take body breaks. If you’re going to work, use the Pomodoro technique to take consistent breaks for stretching, walking, eating, etc. Your mind machine gets overheated with metabolic waste and requires you to flush it out periodically, so doooo it. If you’re not working, but you ARE going to stare at screens for most of the day, remember to take periodic breaks and give your body some attention. After all, the present moment is where the fun is really happening.

  3. Retrain your brain. For a long-term solution to leaky work boundaries, you need a major overhaul. The best way I’ve found (for myself and my clients) to free up your brain and literal calendar is to reprogram the behaviors and beliefs that have kept you spinning on the workaholic merry-go-round. I created The Courage Collective to help you do just that.

Take it from me, the queen of leaky work boundaries, when I tell you permanent change is possible.

I was the freelancer who worked 90-hour weeks, decimating my profits and personal life because I couldn’t flip off the work switch in my brain.

Eventually I got tired of being so…tired. I decided to do whatever it took to overhaul my mindset, so I could enjoy the PERKS of running my own business in the first place.

I partnered with mentors and masterminds. I gave and received deep mindset support. I made the changes I needed to raise my rates, set healthy boundaries, and detach from my work obsession.

Now I work fewer hours but feel far more fulfilled. I’m finally experiencing the freedom and purpose I longed for when I quit my corporate job 9 years ago.

I’ve bottled up all I know about growing a business and life on your terms inside my private coaching program, The Confident Creator Coaching.
